Bill to Reduce Health Care-Associated Infections to be Considered by Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee

Harrisburg -- The Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee will consider legislation tomorrow aimed at reducing health care‑associated infections.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, June 13 at 10 a.m. in Room 461 of the Main Capitol.

Often referred to as hospital-acquired infections, health care-associated infections affect an estimated two million patients a year, with more than 100,000 dying from bacteria that are increasingly resistant to common antibiotics.

Senate Bill 968, sponsored by committee Chairman Ted Erickson (R-26), would establish the roles of state government and health care facilities in reducing the incidence of infections.
