FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE Great American Clean Up of PA Underway Harrisburg – Local citizens and organizations can do their part to keep Pennsylvania beautiful by participating in the 2010 Great American Clean Up of PA through May 1, according to state Sen. Ted Erickson (R-26). The effort is supported by PA CleanWays, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, the Pennsylvania Beverage Association, and several other organizations from across the state. “We should do our part to keep our community clean every day, and most people do. The Great American Clean Up simply provides another opportunity to get together with neighbors and demonstrate how we can keep Pennsylvania beautiful,” said Erickson. Groups that plan and register local events can request free bags, gloves and vests from PennDOT district offices. Register and request clean-up supplies at www.gacofpa.org. Registered events also will be able to take the trash collected during their cleanup to participating landfills for free disposal. The 2009 Great American Clean Up of PA included nearly 172,000 volunteers cleaning up more than 16,000 miles of roads, railroad tracks, trails, waterways and shorelines, as well as nearly 7,000 acres of parks and wetlands. Volunteers collected nearly seven million pounds of trash.
