MEDIA ADVISORY Senate Majority Policy Committee to Hold Hearing on
Issues Facing Inner Ring Suburbs Harrisburg – The Senate Majority Policy Committee, chaired by Sen. Ted Erickson (R-26), will hold a public hearing July 21 on issues facing "inner ring" suburbs in Pennsylvania. The hearing will be held Thursday, July 21, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Upper Darby Municipal Building in Delaware County. Suburbs directly bordering cities are considered "inner ring" -- they are the older suburbs developed in the 1950s when citizens started leaving the cities for surrounding areas. Issues these communities now face are similar to those faced by Pennsylvania’s cities, including population decline, a need for economic revitalization, aging stormwater and sewer infrastructure, and declining tax base. Senator Erickson believes more attention needs to be focused on the needs of the "inner ring" suburbs. Testifiers will include local and county officials, developers, watershed management experts and a representative from the Southeastern PA First Suburbs Project.
